RE: dubai, I can't believe this
old news. its happens all the time. there's even rumor the CID plant stuff on people who look like the kind to be on drugs to get in on monetary incentives that come with busting a smuggler/user.

but it doesn't really happen all that often. especially if you take caution in how you appear - i.e. looking decent. take it from someone who's been living here for 20 years - you only get trouble if you ask for it. the horror stories you hear bout this place have backstories.

in any case, this begs the question: why would you want to go to Dubai as a tourist anyway? its not all that special. sure, its got some pretty weird and interesting marvels of engineering, but its not worth travelling half-way round the world for. neighboring oman is way prettier. syria is a few hours away. so is india and egypt.

my advice, if you're looking for the next destination for your travel portfolio, put dubai at the bottom section of the list. if you're looking to get paid and settle down for a couple or more years, give it a shot.

RE: dubai, I can't believe this
I lived in Jubail, Saudi Arabia for the last two years. I never even attempted to visit Dubai and don't regret the decision.

Living in Saudi Arabia is a worse situation than Dubai, and I won't comment on Dubai as I have already said I haven't been there. I don't need to go there to know what goes on.

Bahrain is a far more pleasant destination if you want to spend a day or two. Just don't come in summer.
