What's everyone's favorite non western food?

Cuisines is one of the best things to sample when on the road and I firmly believe in eating like/with the locals. I'd trust an old lady who has been making noodle soup on the street any day over a spotty teenager with english skills serving "pizza" in a backpacker café

So, my favorite is Pad Thai off the street in Bangkok. Let's hear yours!
At least the Thais are together enough to make street food that doesn't make you ill afterwards.

There's great street food in India but you'd be crazy to eat it.

The roasted silkworm cocoons in Korea make you sick before you even eat it though
hands down
Rotis and tikkas in pakistan.
and the fabled chicken soup of chitral.
Like the Loch Ness monster
only edible.
ok ... you got me curious. what do you mean "like the loch ness monster" ? dont say that thing that may or may not be living in schotland
oh, it certainly exists.
2000 coachloads of japanese tourists
cant be wrong.
can they?
i dont doubt that. but how does it relate to that food?!
cos the chitrali chicken soup is so hard to find.
the best soup travels around in a mobile cart.
you need to know where to waylay
this sumptuous repast.

damn. i'd go all the way back to the Kush just for that soup.
Belgium has THE BEST waffles - with extra sugar on top yum yum yum. thats my vote.
pura vida
em
I'd say just about any street cart in Thailand, pork tacos in Mexico, or chinese steamed meat-filled buns.

Then again, if it's the holiday season in India you can't go wrong with a little bhang.
I'm in Italy now and have just tasted my first real pizza - it's only pizza if it's made in a wood oven....
